Tournaments: Mortal Kombat 1
By Takeda

The ship crashed against the waves of the sea. The smell, which hung in the air, was that of dead fish and salt water. The side of the ship was laced with moss and seaweed. This meant that the ship had been docked for some time before this night. The hull was old yet sturdy on its frames on which it was based on. The sails were limp and spotted with holes near the bottom. The stern was nothing more then a place where the ship ended. A cabin could also be found at that end of the ship. At the bow stood a man. He was dressed a rob that hung to his feet. At his waist was nothing more then a fancy rope. The sleeves of the rob hung over the hands when they were at his side. His face was as cold as the night itself. His white hair was draped over his solders. His beard was even longer then the hair but was still as white as it. Behind was yet another cabin but this one went into the ship itself. The deck conditions were not the best that they could be. Seaweed lined the deck while moss grew in the corners. The wheel of the ship sat atop of the cabin that was at the bow of the ship. Two sets of stairs, two on each side, lead up to the wheel. A railing surrounded the square on top of the cabin.

Standing at the center of the boat was three people. None of them talked or spoke during this confrontation or make any large movements, they just stood their, silent. One of them was Lt. Sonya Blade. She worked for a secret agency in America. Most would think that a girl couldn't fight for herself, you would be terribly wrong to say this to her face of course. She learned to fight at the agency's training center. Her shoes were hard leather and were laced in a tight knot. Her socks couldn't be seen because her long, tight, pants covered right over them. These pants were black with a small symbol on the top left part of it. Her shirt seemed to be a turtleneck with the same small little symbol that was on her pants on the top left corner of the shirt. On her hands were leather gloves. They were also black like the pants, shirt and boots. She was wearing a hat that was also black. Her ponytail hung down freely and blew with the slight breeze of air. Her eyes were brown her hair was blond. Her face told everyone what he or she needed to know, stay away from me. The only reason she was on the boat was to catch Kano.

Kano was one of the leaders of the Black Dragon Organization. Sonya was chasing him so he would pay for the death of her partner.

Opposite of her was Jonny Cage. His real name was John Carlton. He changed when he became an actor because his agent said it wasn't 'right'. He had spent a lot of his time in show biz and was more used to more expensive form of transportation and had a disliking of the conditions of the ship. He was dressed uptight and very prepared for more of dinner then a fighting tournament, but didn't know this yet. He wore a navy blue vest over a white under shirt that could be seen. He was wearing dark blue jeans that went slightly over his white socks. His, very expensive, shoes were black. His hair was of a dark brown. You couldn't tell what eye color his eyes were because $300 sun glasses. The lenses were black. The frames were 14K gold. He had know idea why he was here or what to do. All that he knew that was that he came here to prove that he was the best and would anything to prove that. Even if it means taking down someone that got in his way.

The third person in the group of three was Liu Kang. He was a Sholin monk from China. He was a decedent of Kung Lao. He wasn't a direct decedent of him unlike one of his relatives (you will learn about him in the latter parts). He was wearing a black leather jacket that looked; like it was just thrown on. It was going over a white undershirt. He was wearing black jeans, which looked a little small for him, but he didn't seem to care. He shoes looked kind'a like sneakers but a little more like sandals. His jeans were held up by a black belt with a dragon symbol as the belt buckle. His black draped over his ears, while some hair in front his face. He was Chinese so his eyes looked like any other person that was Chinese. His brown eyes glimmered with the light produced by the moon.

Then, finally out of no where Johnny Cage spoke," Why the hell are we here?" Johnny asked while looking at the two other fighters.

"We're fighting in the tournament called Mortal Kombat." Liu Kang replied while looking at the other fighters.

"What the heck is Mortal Kombat?" Johnny Cage asked as he took a step forward.

"Mortal Kombat is tournament which pits fighters against other fighters to decide the fate of the world. You use all your skills and talents to defeat your opponent." Liu Kang answered.

"It won't make a difference if you mortals will live or die. Either way I shall beat all of you." A voice replied from the shadows of darkness in the corner of the boat. When Johnny tried to find from which corner the voice came from Sonya pushed him out of the way so hard that he flew in the air for about a second then landed hard on his back.

"Get out of my way Johnny." She said as she begain to take out the gun that was on her right side. Johnny slowly started to pick himself when a hand reached out in front of him and helped him up.

"Thanks Liu." Johnny politely responded to Liu. Sonya held her gun in a firm tight grip. She walked forward while still holding the gun in front with two hands. As she walked every step made an errie creaking noise that made flesh crawl. She made her way to the side of the boat to grab one of the ropes for stability from the rocking boat.

"That weapon will not harm me mortal." The voice slowly uttered, as a strange light seemed to almost evolve from his skin. Sonya slowly started to advance forward but before she reached the figure she came to a complete stop. She didn't know why or how she was stopped all she knew that movement was impossible. Sonya looked up just as the shadow that had loomed there for the whole time started to come forward. The first thing to come into view was a rice picker's hat. The shadow of the hat covered over the eyes, which almost seemed to be glowing with an eerie light. The next part to come out of the darkness was an arm. The sleeves were as white as a cloud that went down to the elbows. His skin was a darkened color. Then the torso emerged, with the other arm close behind. The cloths that covered the large chest was that the color of white. A blue belt was tied around his waist. A cloth was hanging down from the belt with Japanese script on it, translated it said 'Lightning'. The last part of his body to become visible was his legs. His pants were white like the rest of his cloths. His shoes were connected to the pants.

"Weapons of such insolence would not harm Raiden, God of Thunder and Lightning and protector of the realm of Earth." The mighty god said as he began to laugh.

"You mortals are so ignorant and pathetic. I don't even know why I care about you. Acutely, I don't care." Raiden shouted at his weary listeners. Every word that came out of his mouth enraged Sonya to the brink of insanity.

"Why would a god care so little of the ones he protects?" Johnny Cage asked.

"He's immortal. Why would he care for life? And with that probably not for death ether." The angry Liu Kang stated as he came closer to the figure dwarfed over him. Raiden held his hand toward Sonya and a large ball of light grew in his hand. Sonya's eye's opened larger than humanely possible just as the light came at her with amazing speed. She collapsed to the ground in a heap. Johnny rushed to her aid.

"What the hell did you do to her!" The angered Johnny shouted. He picked up the lifeless body that was knocked out.

"She shall be fi…" But before Raiden could continue he was lifted above the ground by nothing that was visible. He gacked and coughed struggling for a breath of air. He then collapsed on the ground just like Sonya did. He got up to his knees and started to take quick breaths of air. He lifted up his head and looked at everyone that stood in front of him. They all stood there shocked as Raiden was.

"Who grabbed me just now!" Raiden shouted, "Answer me!" He shouted again. They all stood there confused and slightly disoriented (except for Sonya that was still knocked out).

"I have know idea just what happened? I was standing over here and I really, well what I mean to say is that I didn't grab you or anything like that." Johnny Cage stuttered out while clinching his hands in a tight ball. Raiden stood up straight, evened out his cloths and disappeared in huge ball of light. The ball of light disappeared into the sky. Raiden wouldn't be seen till the next day. About two hours later Sonya began to wake up. She was lying atop some ropes that were in a pile. Johnny was looking out to see. He was amazed by how big the moon looked in the distance. How bright it was. In the city of Los Angeles to see a moon that wasn't fake was very rare. Liu Kang was sitting on the steps of the boat that lead up to the bow. What he is thinking is of himself and himself alone. His hair blew in the wind, which passed by every so often making him look older and wiser, then he acutely is. Sonya's head beat like a tin drum. She pushed back her hat reveling long blond hair that went pass her shoulders and down her back. It glinted in the moonlight. The light that reflected off her hair caught the corner of Johnny's eye.

"Well it looks like someone finally got up." Johnny said as a grin grew out of his straight face.

"Don't get soft on me Johnny Cage. We only just met and I don't like you very much. And will you please get that smile off your face before I have to." The angered Sonya declared. Johnny quickly turned his grin into a satisfied look that came out threw the eyes. Sonya replied to that look with two straight facing eyes both focused on him. Sonya turned around just be hit by a breeze. But unlike normal winds that pass by this one was followed by footsteps. She didn't quite catch what happened yet thought nothing of it. Just then Liu Kang got up and stretched out his arms. He rolled his neck around several times before stepping forward. His steps lead to a door that was opposite the captain's cabin. Johnny noticed what Liu was going toward and followed him. Sonya didn't care were they were going or why they were going there. But as to check how many magazines she had left after making some shooting attempts on Kano as boarded this ship. Then she thought that maybe Kano was behind that very door. When she noticed what the other two could find she rushed to not only catch up with them but get in front of them. She pushed them to the side and pulled the door open. Sonya pulled out her gun and held it in front of herself. She was ready for everything. When Johnny closed the door behind himself he was unaware that a figure was watching him.

The mysterious person has been watching for some time now. The black of his uniform looked of the night. The blue rendered that of the sky on a clear day. His eyes were narrowed at the closing door. The blue mask looked darker then the rest of the blue on his body because of his black hood that it was connected to. His arms were lying on the banister. His hands were laid on top of each other. His belt was tied tightly around his waist. A blue piece of cloth hung from the front of the belt. His legs stood firmly atop the deck. This figure is. known as Sub-Zero. He has mastered the way of the Lin Kuei. The Lin Kuei was an ancient ninja clan that trained assassins. Some of the Lin Kuei's members have been given a special power. It has been passed down in that person's family for generations. The power, which Sub-Zero had, was the power to control the temperature close to his body. This enabled him to freeze small water droplets in the air and turn them into ice in which he could throw at a desired object.

He continued to watch his soon to be enemy's until a sound behind of him caught his attention. Sub-Zero reached backwards and grabbed the figures arm and twisted it around. The person was none other then Scorpion. Sub-Zeros enemy for years. Scorpion was from a rival ninja clan known as the Shri Lou. Sub-Zero killed him in a recent mission to retrieve an amulet. Scorpion was killed in an unhonerable way, begging for mercy at his feet. His soul was forever lost in a place called the Neither Realm. Some how Scorpion got aboard the ship. His costume was almost a complete duplicate of Sub-Zeros except for that instead of blue was yellow. His eyes were as white as a cloud and just as misty.

"Sub-Zero, I seek your life."

"You deserved what you got for pleading for mercy. I show no mercy!"

"I will have my revenge in combat."

" I'll beat you as I did before but this time no leniency will be given." Sub-Zero stated as he released Scorpion from the hold. Scorpion shook his arm to get feeling into it again. Scorpion clinched his teeth and bit his tongue in sheer anger. Sub-Zero backed away from Scorpion who was stroking his spear in his hand.

"That's enough you two!" A figure shouted from the shadows.

"Shang Tsung, you didn't tell me that this slug of the under world would make his presence on this boat!"

"I thought he would be a good fighter in this tournament."

"You know the only reason I'm here is to fight in your honor. But if he is fighting for you then I shall take different sides!"

"See Master Tsang, he will betray you. I will fight in your honor." Scorpion smiled at Sub-Zero as he bowed his head."

"He is here only to fight me. He does not care for your cause."

'"Be that as it may but at least he shall fight. If you do not fight for me I will kill you." Then before Sub-Zero could react to Shang's response a person up in the crow's nest yelled:

"Land Ho!"
